A 4-Week Program, developed by Spade Robinson,
Founder of Atlanta Film Project
My journey in writing this workbook spans my entire career and is deeply rooted in the highs and lows of my life as a screenwriter. The frustrations of feeling powerless in my career and the constant struggle for opportunities against the odds, led me to coin a term referring to exactly what I needed: "creative accountability." My time at Sundance Institute, working intimately with filmmakers across the Feature Film Program, Documentary Film Program, and Sundance Film Festival laid a sturdy foundation for how to support the independent voice. I became a curator of dreams, helping storytellers refine their narratives and build storytelling practices to use for the rest of their careers. In 2015, I founded the Atlanta Film Project—a vehicle to democratize the development process. The privilege of collaborating with HBO, FOX, Disney, Women In Film, Film Independent, Sundance and the Academy Nicholl Fellowships, among others, gives me a direct line to industry-level standards, that I now pass to you.
With Love, - Spade
Banish Writer’s Block, Forever!
Embarking on the challenge of writing a feature screenplay can be daunting. Fear of writer's block, uncertainty about where to begin and the worry of making the wrong creative choices, often hinder progress. Atlanta Film Project's Script From Scratch (SFS) program is your dedicated companion, providing not just accountability but comprehensive support and encouragement throughout your writing journey.
Little Time To Write, Little Money To Hire Help...
For many emerging writers, juggling a full-time job unrelated to storytelling and finding time and resources for writing can feel like an endless loop. The struggle intensifies when seeking guidance becomes financially out of reach. I've been there, and that's why SFS automates script development, affordably. This program ensures your work is tight, honest, and compelling, laying the foundation for an empowering practice that embraces your unique voice— without requiring you to quit your day job... yet.
By the last page, you will have completed 2 Outlines and 2 Beat Sheets!
The paralysis of staring at a blank screen is a shared struggle for many writers. SFS is your antidote to this block. By eliminating guesswork and providing tailored prompts and exercises, the program guides you through creative decisions without the pressures of getting stuck, getting it “wrong” or “writing badly”. The workbook seamlessly integrates character and story development into building your structural beats. Following a three-act structure model, the program ensures the clarification and development of every aspect of your script. Begin your screenplay with confidence, free from structural issues.
Look forward to comprehensive support and encouragement!
Before delving into the creative process, mental and emotional openness is crucial. Your emotional honesty becomes your most valuable tool. While the experience may initially feel repetitive or unusually personal, trust the process. Embrace vulnerability, avoid skipping steps, and approach new exercises, terms, and questions with curiosity and emotional bravery.
